“I put the question, ‘What should I paint?’ into my meditation and waited for the answer to come, which it did. I would create an ‘icon’ of the Southwest landscape that I remembered emotionally. A set of elements would free me to tap into my emotions by concentrating on color and texture. Each painting would also internally address nature - water, sky, ground, mountains… I am best known in most circles as a creator of children’s books, and these paintings are at the other end of my work as an artist. There are no words to illustrate. The color, shapes and texture become the ‘telling’ elements in my work...”
